Updates following release of the back-revised population estimates
The Office for National Statistics ‘back-date’ their recent estimates of the resident population once more accurate Census data becomes available. Their revised estimates were released for each local authority on the 23 November 2023. However, the back-dated population estimates for lower geographies (e.g. wards) were delayed and were published on 25 November 2024.
This has meant that it has not been possible for some time to update local analyses of births, deaths and hospital admission data at ward or local deprivation fifth (see Index of Multiple Deprivation) which required the use of resident population estimates. Now that this data has been published, it will be possible to gradually update life expectancy and birth, mortality and hospital admission rates at ward level and by local deprivation fifth. The information will be updated on our JSNA website over the next few months.

Updated disease prevalence from the Quality and Outcomes Framework
A number of specific diseases and medical conditions are measured within the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) within primary care. As part of the General Medical Services contract implemented in 2004, QOF was set out as a means for general practices to measure achievement against a set of clinical and other indicators that reflected the quality of care provided to their patients. A national system was established to support the calculation of GP practice payments according to the achievements against QOF.
There are a number of indicators around establishing a register of patients with specific conditions, and these indicators can be used to provide an estimate of the prevalence of the recorded levels of diagnosed disease.
The latest information for the 2023/24 financial year has been published. Further information can be found within a Local Analysis of the Quality and Outcomes Framework Data which is available under Tools and Resources.
The diagnosed prevalence (and any statistically significant association between the prevalence and average age of patients or average deprivation score of patients) is given within the relevant disease and medical condition under Health Factors within Adults or in the case of learning disabilities and mental ill health under Vulnerable Groups.
Addition of Picture of Health
The Office for Health Improvement & Disparities’ North East and Yorkshire Local Knowledge and Information team have produced a Picture of Health intelligence pack which summaries the health and wellbeing of residents of Hull. This has been added to our Key Facts summary under Home.
